I recently purchased a titanium wood stove from Seek Outside. This stove weighs 46 ounces including the smoke stack, damper and arrestor. I intend (in the beginning) to use the stove with a Tipi Tent (RedCliff) for winter travel. The RedCliff comes it at 78 ounces. All combined, they weigh less than 8 lbs. Which is pretty good for a 4 person shelter and wood stove to heat it.
Now, understand and am typically NOT one to measure ounces when backpacking. While I do keep it light, I simply don’t bring much in the way of camping/backpacking gear. It also depends on what I am doing. Backpacking is just a way to get somewhere for me. I don’t consider it “my activity”. Typically, I backpack to do research, to climb, to do something else. This tent/wood stove combo is intended to fly with me in my airplane, on my boat, snowmobile, in my sledge. Essentially, I’ve decided to keep it light so I can haul other gear.
I plan to experiment with the stove for other uses such as using it in the awning of the expedition trailer or in a shed and garage. The video provides some practical information. The first step is “messing with it” and “burning it in”. I thought I would make a video as it might be of interest to y’all, I hope you get something out of it.
