This locomotive is called 1225. It inspired a child to write a book that became a famous movie, “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg. There are many locomotives that claim to be the “Polar Express”, but this one was the inspiration, the model for the movie and most of the sound effects.
This old locomotive hauled wartime freight. It was retired, saved from scrap, displayed and brought back to service. While being the inspiration for the book and movie “The Polar Express”, it also has an amazing story. It has a dedicated crew that still displays that “Can Do” attitude that helped this country defeat evil in World War II. Locomotive 1225 is more than amazing engineering, it is the inspiration of generations.
