Santa Visits Big Boiler Brewing

Ho! Ho! Ho! Who came to visit Big Boiler Brewing in Lowell, Michigan? It was Santa / DaViking! My husband, Chuck, otherwise known as “DaViking,” stopped by our local pub last week on Tuesday’s Kids’ Night to bring cheer. His bag was loaded with clear plastic candy canes filled with treats and dollar bills in his pocket. He rang sleigh bells as he Ho! Ho! Ho-ed! through the restaurant. Enchantment followed him as he delivered festive greetings and gifts.

Gracie greeted Santa at the kids’ craft table last Tuesday, December 21st.

Santa crouched to the youngster’s level and listened. Feeling safe with his Dad in between, the boy recited his list with vigor. My heartbeat quickened as I observed this exchange. THIS SANTA is something special! Chuck always boosts the energy level wherever he goes, especially when he’s clad in red.

The admiration and excitement on the boy’s face says it all!

The Suit

This Santa costume has a long history. Aunt Carol Jean Simpson made it for Chuck’s Dad, Nile Hayden. More than forty years of fun has been wrapped up in the seams of this suit! Nile graciously gave the suit to his son that very day, just for this occasion. It will be cherished and used to create Christmas cheer for many future events.

The Organek Family

The Organek family comes to Kid’s Night regularly. Emma and her niece created a reindeer!

At their table Santa listened to each child’s docket of desires. He distributed the candy canes filled with Sixlets. Dollar bills were dealt out, too!

The Organek family took turns sharing their holiday wishes with Santa.

Being Present

You are all aware of how emotions are magnified during the holidays, especially when there are empty chairs around your family’s table. After several decades, I have realized that life’s layers consist of hardship. I have learned that focusing on expectations can leave one disappointed.

Rather, by concentrating on cultivating memories each time we gather with loved ones is essential to finding joy. Soaking in these moments to treasure later is a key to finding happiness in this season. My hope is that you’ve been able to find some enchantment.

Even adults called Santa over to their table to add to their Christmas list.

Chuck As Santa

Observing “Santa” as he listened to diners brought a sparkle of merriment to the restaurant. Chuck continues to bring animation and exuberance to any space he inhabits. He was charming in his red outfit! As we celebrate our 26th anniversary, I appreciate his charismatic personality and life we’ve built together. I don’t want to ever take him for granted. Ok, enough swooning! Back to the story . . .

Noah Showed Up, But Where Was Santa?

Our nineteen year old son, Noah, had come to witness the visitor from the North Pole. But where was Santa?

Santa was in the freezer trying to cool off!
At the end of the night, Noah came to see Santa.
Can you guess who won? Santa, of course!

Morgan

Morgan, the manager and bartender, had created the Kid’s Night concept. She has designed the crafts and a dessert offerings for the Tuesday night caper. It’s been quite a success! As a retired elementary teacher, I have enjoyed helping at the art table. Morgan had asked Chuck to dress as Santa. DaViking did an amazing job!

Santa assisted Morgan, the manager and bartender, with clearing patrons’ plates.
Morgan’s baby is due in February! We are so happy for her and her husband, Tyler!
Gracie (pictured at the beginning) will be a BIG sister!

As we endure unexpected situations that life has thrown our way, remember to keep an attitude of gratitude. We can absorb these snap shots of life and treasure them later. This night left me smiling! May you find peace and solace in the new year. Happy 2022!
